Sadly, the days of Reach Cambridge 2015 are numbered and preliminary efforts have been made to sift through the piles of paper, board games, sporting equipment and art materials that have been accumulating in the Reach offices. However, despite this solemn backdrop of tidying and packing, an extravaganza of young talent has been unfurling in the Reach community. Indeed it seems only appropriate that we stop to appreciate the variation and talent that members of Reach have to offer before we all jet off home to different corners of the globe on Saturday. And so, on this unremarkable summer’s day, Reach Cambridge has unleashed its talent to the world.
Creativity and ‘maximum enjoyment’ infiltrated the day early on in the form of an arts and crafts session at noon in which supervisor Scott mastered the art of tissue-paper pom-pom making under the supreme guidance of Holly. Each bright, billowing ball of tissue shall be used to adorn the Cambridge Union Society for the student party on Friday evening. As I fluffed out each vivid sheet of tissue-paper I couldn’t help feeling a strange mix of giddy excitement for what I’m sure will prove to be an awesome evening but also sadness that these super fun three weeks are nearly at an end.
However, the main event today was the evening talent show. The willingness of the students to share and embrace each other’s talents was truly heart-warming and really went to show how much the students have bonded over the program. The sheer variety of talent was also remarkable with acts ranging from a classical rendition of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’, to magic tricks to dancing to beat boxing. It is therefore unsurprising that the evening went down a treat for students and staff alike! The staff also brought their own ‘talent’ to the table with a classic ‘Abba’ dance number which either had you up on your feet…or in fits of laughter. All in all, the Reach Cambridge Talent Show 2k15 has been a triumph for all involved and hopefully only anticipates the convivial, emotional atmosphere to come at the Farewell party on Friday.
