First full day of Reach Program One! After breakfast in college with their new friends, the students were shown to their classrooms. There are so many subjects offered here at Reach Cambridge, catering to the vast interests of the students. Students have chosen from a huge range of subjects, including Global Leadership, Medicine, Law, and English Language & Creative Writing. Whatever they choose, they will experience teaching from top-class academics.
After their first morning of classes, the students had some well deserved free time to explore Cambridge, and grab some food before reconvening for the afternoon’s activities. Cambridge is host to a variety of restaurants, shops and food stalls, so our students are spoilt for choice!
When they had finished exploring what Cambridge has to offer, or having lunch with their new classmates, the students returned to their colleges for the annual scavenger hunt: The Instravaganza! The students were split into groups, and following a series of clues held by their supervisor, they tracked down and located various sights, and iconic Cambridge landmarks.
The students could win points for their team by taking the most creative photos at each spot, this year featuring Great St Mary’s Church and the Mathematical Bridge (photos of which can be seen on Instagram using the hashtag #reachcambridge2025)!
After a busy afternoon of tracking down clues, the students had some free time to rest before dinner, and the first evening lecture of the summer. What better way to kick things off than with the One-Drum workshop, hosted by the master Ghanaian drummer, Abass Dodoo. Abass once again put on a magnificent workshop for the new cohort, teaching the students to drum in the same way it had been passed down to him through the generations. A perfect finish to the first full day of the program!
Students were then able to spend some free time in town, before heading back to college to get some sleep after a busy day of exploring, learning, and of course, drumming!
