Summer 2019: Program 2 – Day 10

  • July 25, 2019
  • By Author: Jenny

It was the hottest day we’ve had so far this program here at Reach (indeed, on record!), with many lessons moving outside for the morning. The English students were treated to a lesson spent writing poetry at Byron Pool in Grantchester, where Lord Byron, one of the leading Romantic poets, allegedly used to swim. It was also Kalifa the Psychology teacher’s last day at Reach. Her class have really enjoyed the program and will miss her!

A bittersweet farewell in Psychology class!

We ran two Taster sessions this afternoon: Introduction to Coding and Economics – students trying coding got to programme their own robots (see our Instagram post below!), which everyone found super interesting. Despite the high temperatures, the students still really enjoyed our Treasure Hunt this afternoon, which involved the two teams, Ice and Fire, racing to follow a series of clues around Trinity Hall to win a prize of doughnuts and white chocolate cookies. Fire won by a significant margin, narrowing the gap between the two teams. Others decided to spend the afternoon rehearsing hard for the Talent Show on Thursday night. Meanwhile, we also ran football and basketball sessions, and even though it was still hot, with the help of lots of water and shade, everyone had a lovely time.
Our evening lecture tonight was on China’s economy and the slowing of its growth in recent years, which all the students thoroughly enjoyed and had lots of questions afterwards. We then held an International Quiz on different countries and cultures, which resulted in another massive win for Team Fire.
