Another amazing day in Cambridge for all of us! The morning started off with a scrumptious traditional cooked breakfast at Cote Brasserie followed by a great Community Outreach session run by Katie from Sabre (http://sabretrust.org/) a charity dedicated to building a brighter future for school children in Ghana.
We have worked with Sabre for many years now and raised over £15,000 for their educational projects, including helping to build schools, toilets and classroom facilities across Ghana. Today, our spring students were involved in helping Sabre boost their presence online and on social media and to help spread the word of Sabre’s good work. We can’t wait to see the results shortly - watch this space!
After this, the students walked into town and then were welcomed back to Reach Hall for a personal statement writing workshop with David, or, for the new week 2 students, a University Applications lecture from Ros. Students loved both sessions and said they were really helpful in preparing for the future. The students from the personal statement session said they’d loved the challenge of coming up with their opening sentence – something they said they’re keen to continue musing upon over the next few days!
The students then all came together again for a preparatory session on debating ahead of their return visit to the Cambridge University debating chambers on Thursday. They’ve been given topics to prepare ahead of this session so plenty of food for thought.
Talking of food, we then rounded off the day with another gorgeous Formal Hall at Downing College – this week we were given the top table where we feasted on a lovely meal by candlelight! Normally the top table is reserved for the teaching Fellows and the Master of each college, so we were very honoured!
The food was absolutely delicious. The students then enjoyed a quick stride across the Paddock - the only piece of grass people are allowed to walk on in Downing - before heading home in preparation for a busy but brilliant day ahead in London tomorrow!
