Summer 2025: Program 3 – Day 9

  • August 13, 2025
  • By Author: Nicole Banas

Given the highs of 32 degree weather in Southern England, yesterday was a sweltering and thrilling day. Our Computer Science, Maths and Physics students had an exciting trip in place of their typical lessons – they were taken out to the Computing Museum here in Cambridge. The museum features an enormous Megaprocessor, which a room sized version of a microprocessor intended to teach people how they work. At the same time, our Biotechnology students continued to dive into the world of genetic engineering, challenging and stretching their academic thought.

Activities wise, there was an exciting day in store! In the early afternoon we allowed students to finish off any painting or art projects they had started earlier on in the week, with many students painting remaining tote bags and t-shirts. Upstairs in the Trinity Hall Music Room we welcomed the return of the viewing of Mean Girls, which was enjoyed by both students and supervisors alike. These were good opportunities to get out of the hot sun and do some chill activities inside. Students were also given this time to find lunch and, as many of us did, have a cold shower!

As the evening rolled around however, it was time to go out and enjoy a wonderful evening of sports, pizza, games and chat. After a walk to Corpus Sports Grounds, students were happily greeted with delicious Aromi pizza boxes. After eating, it was time to get into the sport! Our team had set up volleyball and badminton nets, alongside the tennis court and of course a football pitch available for everyone to use. Volleyball stayed as popular as ever, with an exciting addition: a Students vs Supervisors volleyball match! With the supervisors a lot less practised in their volleyball techniques, we were sure it was going to be a 3-0 clean sweep for our students. Surprisingly, not only were the supervisors able to hold a lead in the first game (before tragically losing right at the very end), but came out victorious in the third! The rivalry was fierce and many students came to watch the game unfold. Overall the evening had a lovely summer evening atmosphere, with music and laughter heard all round, with a calm finish to another exciting day here at Reach.
