Summer 2025: Program 3 – Day 7

  • August 11, 2025
  • By Author: Nicole Banas

It was time for the second excursion of the programme! And it was certainly set to be an exciting one; our Reach students were making their way over to London! An early wake up followed by a breakfast in colleges meant that our students were able to get on the road nice and early. Today’s excursion allowed students to tailor it to their interests, given that  we had a range of different museums available to choose from.

The V&A, or Victoria and Albert Museum, is a world-renowned museum and it is one of the world’s largest and most impressive museums of art, design, and performance, with a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects that spans 5,000 years of creativity. It holds incredibly diverse collections and was a fascinating place to explore for our students.

For our students interested in history, we offered the Natural History Museum! It’s a place dedicated to the wonders of the natural world, with a collection of over 80 million specimens. It features the magnificent blue whale skeleton, “Hope,” suspended in the middle of the large main hall. A must-do is the Earthquake Simulator, an immersive experience where you stand in a recreated Japanese supermarket and feel the ground shake just as it did during the 1995 Kobe earthquake.

Lastly, some our students chose to venture into the world of innovation at the Science Museum.  They were able to see the “Exploring Space” gallery, which features a real piece of the Moon and the Apollo 10 command module. The “Making the Modern World” gallery was also a hit, showcasing objects that have transformed our lives over the last 250 years, including the first Apple computer. Some of Medics were excited by the history of medicine section and some early versions of the microscope!

After some academic enrichment in the museaums it was time for some down time in the nearby Hyde Park. Our students were able to some sun and enjoy a well-deserved rest. It was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy a beautiful London afternoon.

As evening approached, we hopped back onto the coach to return home to Cambridge after a fun day. As for our chill evening activities, we got creative with a post card making activity, allowing our students to recount their experiences from the first half of the program and send their well-wishes to family back home. They shall be posted imminently to their destinations! At the same time we hosted a movie night, with the student’s selection being the the classic comedy Mean Girls. It was a good end to what had been a great day!

Make sure to follow us on instagram @reachcambridge to see all the action happen, and come back here every day to follow along with our student’s journeys!
