The first full day of Programme 2 here in Cambridge is complete. After an early wake up and breakfast in the college, students were led by a host of supervisors to their first classes, dispersed across various sites in the town. Students were able to finally get stuck in to their academics – Reach hosts a large range of different subjects for students to choose from, ranging from Architecture to Global Leadership, Maths and Psychology, as well as many more. Our students are able to truly get a taste of what these courses are like at a higher level.
After their first morning of classes, students were finally given the opportunity to explore the city a little themselves; the newly opened Shakeshack was a popular choice, but Cambridge’s many restaurants and fast food places offers a variety of options for everyone. Lunch was followed by an exciting game designed to get the students exploring the city more in depth; our Instravaganza! Students are split into groups and are given cryptic clues related to different sites across the city. These range from the famous Newton’s apple tree, to the New Museums Whale cafe, and the Corpus Clock. The challenge is to find them and take a picture in front of them; all photos are posted to #reachcambridge2025 on Instagram, and the most creative will be awared special points in the big Fire Vs Ice competition. We have loved watching all the entries roll in so far!
Tonight’s evening lecture is truly a special one; Abass Dodoo, a famous Ghanian-born drummer and founder of the organisation One Drum. Not only does he have an exciting story to tell of his childhood in Ghana to his multiple meetings with the royal family, but most exciting were the 100 drums he brought with him! The atmosphere in the room was electric as our students truly drummed their heart out and dove into some authentic African styles. Abass Dodoo is much loved by our students, encouraging them to sing, dance and truly connect with music. The many selfies students want to take with him is proof of his popularity!
The evening was then followed by some free time for our students, before heading to their corridors and getting ready for another fun day here with us at Reach.
