Summer 2025: Program 1 – Day 5

  • July 15, 2025
  • By Author: Alannah Smyth

Excursion day! For the first trip of the summer, we took our students to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. As one of literature’s most influential figures, Shakespeare’s impact on our language and culture is immense. We explored his birthplace, childhood home, and the impressive house he shared with his wife and children. Students were able to explore various history-themed gift shops and even take pictures with Shakespeare himself!

For lunch, students enjoyed the sights and grabbed a bite to eat in town before heading to Warwick Castle. Built in 1068 by William the Conqueror, Warwick Castle transported the students to Elizabethan England, with actors in vivid period costumes creating an immersive experience, bringing the infamous English war between the houses of York and Lancaster to life. The castle also offered a variety of activities on offer, including Archery!

Inside the castle, students explored a room dedicated to Henry VIII, featuring lifelike wax models of historical figures. We climbed to the top of the castle, taking in the expansive and beautiful grounds. Another highlight was the Falconer’s Quest, a stunning bird of prey show featuring the Bearded Vulture, Bald Eagle, and many more impressive birds. Despite a long and hot, the students’ energy and enthusiasm were infectious.

Upon return, students had the option to carry on the good vibes with some Karaoke or a game of Werewolves before some much needed rest from the exciting day!
