Reach Cambridge August 2016: Day 13

  • August 11, 2016
  • By Author: Luke
Even as the Summer School begins to draw to a close, the fun refuses to stop at Reach. On ‘Academic Thursday’ every student went on an excursion to London, tailored specifically for the subject course they have been studying here. I was lucky enough to accompany the Chemistry & Medicine and Biotechnology classes to both the Natural History and Science museums in London, whilst other classes visited the UK Supreme Court and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre amongst other highlights. Despite a bright and early start, the students remained in high spirits and got stuck in to a specially designed Scavenger Hunt in the Natural History museum, competing against each other to solve a series of clues by taking pictures with certain exhibits including the life size whale replica, and the Diplodocus skeleton. At the same time, the Economics class got a tour of the Lloyd’s Insurance building, followed by a tour of ‘Unseen London’ lead by a group of people who have recently become homeless. This was a chance for the students to see the effects of the Economics they have been studying, and both the advantage and disadvantage it can bring, and is something the students will never forget. Following the journey back to Cambridge, the students had the chance to attend the final Sport session of Reach Cambridge 2016. A close and entertaining football match ensued, the highlight of which was Director of Curriculum Luke’s brilliant solo goal. Another day has drawn to a close, and as the students start to pack to come home, preparations for Friday’s departure party are in full swing.
