Reach Cambridge July 2016: Day 5

  • July 1, 2016
  • By Author: Jenny
Another busy day at Reach Cambridge has come to an end and what a wonderful day it has been. After classes the students gathered to hear about what will be an eventful weekend: we’re off to Brighton on Saturday and London on Sunday. Many expressed their interest in the British seaside but put their curiosity on hold to belt out some soulful ballads from the 1980s and High School Musical. Singstar is becoming a bit of crowd favourite, with the Disney version taking the students by storm. Valerii’s rendition of a whole new world gave many of us a whole new perspective when it comes to karaoke. It wasn’t all fun and games though, or rather it wasn’t all games because Reach is always fun. Today was also the second of the University’s open days. Thousands of young hopefuls and their parents flooded into Cambridge to see what the colleges and faculties had to offer. Luckily our students already have the advantage of staying in Cambridge colleges, being taught by local academics and building relationships with current and recently graduated Cambridge students. This has certainly given them a better rounded view of life here at the University and gave them the opportunity to explore the more intimate areas of some of the colleges such as their heavily stocked libraries! We also had our first round of corridor dinners, a time where the students eat with and get to spend more time with the people living on their corridor. Not only were pizzas ordered but trips to the supermarket yielded whole trolleys laden with food which was no challenge for the ravenous students. Corridor bonding took place in the form of sport, the creation of friendship bracelets and corridor movie nights. As the daylight fades, vibrant memories are being made and this is only the first week. Written by Precious, Head Supervisor
