Reach Cambridge August 2015: Day 1

  • July 27, 2015
  • By Author: Jenny
Today we welcomed a new group of students from all over the world to our August program. It’s slightly different from July – the first week is the Global Leaders course, followed by two weeks of subject-specific classes. So what can the news students expect from the Global Leaders week? We will be going on excursions, with the very first one tomorrow – a trip to Hampton Court Palace, home of Henry VIII, the famous Tudor king. On Wednesday is a trip to London; our first stop will be the Cabinet War Rooms, the bunker where prime minister Winston Churchill led the war effort in World War Two, followed by a walking tour that takes in major sites from Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square, and finishing in the National Portrait Gallery. The classes and lectures will cover everything from debating to interview skills, Community Outreach to Science and Entrepeneurship and plenty more besides. Outside of class time, we’ve got lots of activities planned; arts and crafts, drama and music, sports (everything from swimming to zumba), bowling – something to appeal to everyone! But enough of looking to the future! What happened today? Well, after settling all the students into their rooms, they were given a tour of Cambridge city centre, met their supervisors and all the other students living on their corridor, and played Icebreaker games so everyone could get to know each other.
