The Reach Team Visit Japan

At Reach we love having students from countries across the world, and often we get the chance to visit new places too, to talk to students about our summer courses. This year marked the very first Reach Cambridge trip to Japan, where we spent a week in Tokyo visiting both local and international schools to discuss our programs. While there we were lucky to have some amazing weather, and took advantage of the sun to visit the sprawling Imperial Palace grounds, Meiji Shrine, and several other parks. The old parks and temples provided a fascinating contrast to the lawns and college chapels found in Cambridge, but were equally picturesque. A particular highlight were the amazing variety of koi carp that we saw throughout the gardens, and I’m sure the River Cam would benefit from a few of these beauties swimming around past the colleges. During the summer programs food is always on everybody’s mind, and things are no different on the trips. In Tokyo we filled up on tempura, ramen, sushi and deep fried pork, not to mention the vast array of delights available from the metro vending machines! For several of the school visits we ventured outside of central Tokyo on the sprawling and marvelously efficient metro system. The London underground did not prepare us quite enough for navigating the huge system, but with a few wrong turns and a bit of help we zoomed in and around the city, even catching a glimpse of Mount Fuji on a school visit farther afield. We would like to extend a big Reach thank you to everyone we met on our trip to Tokyo, and hope to see you again in the future!
