Today was the penultimate day of classes.
In the Criminology class, students studied the features and methods of Forensic Psychology. Given a real, old criminal case, they were asked to profile the criminal, and their profiles were then compared to that constructed by the FBI. The tutor was very impressed with the students, telling them they had performed extremely well. The Global Leadership class, on the other hand, had a Blank Street treat during their lesson!
In the afternoon, sports ran for the last time, where it appeared most of the students chose to go. The rest picked up where they left off in our previous pottery activity. Having let the clay dry, they were able to paint their creations, or catch up on general arts and crafts they had been working on throughout the program. One student painted an album cover onto a tote bag, and another sketched patterns onto a t-shirt.
The last evening lecture was ‘Using Journalism to Make an Impact’, delivered by Donna Ferguson, who advocated that journalism was a good way to “give people a voice“. Group discussions were opened up as students came together to consider important questions journalists encounter, such as if a scandal should be written about even if it happened centuries ago.
Finally, the biggest part of the evening was the Reach Talent Show. This entire program has been filled with talent, and now the room was buzzing with excitement as students could perform the hobbies they love in front of each other. A group from Saudi Arabia performed a dance, the piano was played, groups of students sang, a Brazilian song was sung alongside an acoustic guitar, and even a supervisor got up to sing!
