Today was another lovely day that followed our usual weekday structure of classes, activities and a lecture. We are really enjoying seeing how independent the students have become, finding their own way to classes and activities throughout the day. Following the morning classes and lunch in Cambridge, taster courses continued, allowing students to dive deeper into a fresh subject.
Following on from the popularity of last night’s t-shirt and tote bag painting, we brought out the paints and pens again this afternoon for post-card making. For those who preferred a more energetic afternoon, volleyball, football and tennis were run in the sports grounds.
After several excursion days, a restaurant trip and a picnic, it was very nice to be back in college halls for dinner, and I’m pleased to say that the Corpus Christi chefs outdid themselves today! After dinner we gathered in the Babbage lecture theatre for another of our all-in evening lectures. Ian Dickens, the great-great-grandson of the famous author Charles Dickens, shared with us his fascinating story of competing in a round-the-world yacht race and everything he learnt along the way.
After the lecture, students eagerly gathered to watch the FIFA semi-final, a match between Spain and France, with many supporters for both sides amongst our cohort. In an almost equally exciting competition, the Fire vs Ice squad wars are continuing, with Ice firmly in the lead. However, Fire began to catch up tonight, claiming five points in the trivia question, a chaotic brain-wracking on Taylor Swift minutiae. For those who are unphased by football matches, we also held board and card games for the students to relax and unwind in a calm yet social environment.
Come back tomorrow to hear all about the third day of week two, our exciting interdisciplinary day at the Cambridge Union, and as always, check out our Instagram and Tiktok for more daily updates ! (@reachcambridge).
