Summer 2025: Program 3 – Day 11

  • August 14, 2025
  • By Author: Nicole Banas

We’re very sad to say that we’ve reached the final couple of days here at the programme, and at Reach Cambridge overall. The staff and the students are feeling the final days wind down with a mix of sadness and excitement. Today instead of their usual classes, our Liberal Arts students went on a trip into London to see a stunning photo exhibition. Meanwhile, our Buisness students dove into new concepts such as scarcity and mechanisms of the flow of money in today’s lessons, and our Law students got stuck into the world of Criminal Advocacy, engaging our students in new themes in their intriguing daily classes.

The English weather continues to be hot and humid, which meant that we pushed back our final sports session today in the hopes of not getting sun burnt. Our students and some supervisors had their final game of volleyball, which was as competitive and intense as ever. Students were also given the opportunity to go pick up the various pieces of art they had created over the course of the programme, including pottery, T-shirts, and some brilliant tie-dye shirt pieces!

Today’s evening was a busy and exciting one. After some delicious dinner at Corpus Christi, we all headed over to the McCrum Lecture Theatre for one of the last opportunities for us all to be together. We were honored to be joined today for our evening lecture by Ian Dickens,  one of the great great grandchildren of Charles Dickens, a Cambridge alumn! Little was spoken of the famous figure, however, as Ian’s own story captured the students. Ian’s talk centred on the theme of disruption as a constant necessity in life. After decades of a comfortable life as a marketing director, he decided that change was needed, and adventure was on the horizon. He embarked on an inspiring year long trip around the globe, racing against other amateur crews, hopping from destination to destination. His stories of difficulty, stress, as well as self discovery and friendship, was a striking story to round off the evening. After a trivia round where our Fire and Ice teams once again went head to head to score points, our evening lecture finished off on a high note.

Today’s evening activity is one of the faves for both students and staff, and a brilliant way to have all the students express a little bit of their individuality. It was finally time for The World Showcase and Talent Show! After days of preparations and anticipation students took to the stage and wowed us all. We had everything from traditional Turkish dances, Romanian dances, to a beautiful rendition of ‘Bella Ciao’ and a very impressive Rubiks Cube being solved in under 20 seconds. We were also astounded by a stunning piano performance. A big congratulations to all our performers; tonight was a testament to all the incredibly talented people we have here at Reach!

Make sure to follow us on instagram @reachcambridge to see all the action happen, and come back here every day to follow along with our student’s journeys!
