With the first day of the programme done and dusted, our students are beginning to settle in and get accustomed to the Cambridge feel. Another early morning start meant breakfast followed by a fresh round of classes. Our Politics and International Relations students enjoyed a tour around the centre in their discussion of policy making through the numerous different administrative layers which make up the University. After classes, our students were picked up and led to Market Square where they could have their pick of a many places for their choice of lunch.
With the sun shining and the weather finally taking a turn for the better, it was finally time for the awaited Instravanganza! This is an exciting game designed to get the students exploring the city more in depth. Students are split into groups and are given cryptic clues related to different sites across the city. These range from the famous Newton’s apple tree, to the New Museums Whale cafe, and the Corpus Clock. The challenge is to find them and take a picture in front of them; all photos are posted to #reachcambridge2025 on Instagram, and the most creative will be awared special points in the big Fire Vs Ice competition. We have loved watching all the entries roll in so far as our students get their creative sides to work!
It was also time to take a short break from the college meals and branch out elsewhere for our dinner tonight. Today it was a split between the much loved Nanna Mexico for some delicious burritos, and the popular jaunt Byron Burgers for a range of burgers and fries. Our students dove into the food after their busy few hours hunting around Cambridge. It wasn’t long before it was time for the students second evening lecture. Tonight we had a fascinating talk from Tony Evans about a life in aviation – we learnt about his work as a commercial and military pilot. The level of student engagement was evident by the number of excited hands that went up at the end, eager to ask questions about his intriguing talk and background.
Tonight’s evening activites brought even more fun to the day’s busy schedule. For our puzzlers and those wanting to think strategy, our hardworking supervisors set up a board games and chess activity in Trinity Hall, with the chess being particularly popular amongst our students. Bringing in a different energy was our Karaoke Night; complete with mics, a big screen and some atmospheric lighting, our karaoke night was a big success. With our supervisors not being able to resist some singing, it truly brought everyone together. The night featured on a particularly impressive renditions of ‘Let it Go’ and ‘Diamonds’!
