Today’s morning kicked off with a hearty breakfast at the student’s colleges, keeping them energised for a round of engaging classes. After lunch, our supervisors hosted a choice between two afternoon activies for students to get stuck into. One of these was an exclusive bookshop tour around some of Cambridge’s most historic literary havens! Our students were delighted exploring hidden nooks, discovering rare editions, and soaking in the unique atmosphere of some of England’s oldest bookshops. Included on the tour was Cambridge University’s official bookshop, the hidden antique bookshop on King’s Parade, and the second-hand book seller in the market, much loved by students.
The afternoon also brought an intense, nail-biting chess tournament between our students. The air was full of strategic tension as minds battled it out. The competition was fierce, showcasing incredible focus and sharp thinking from all our participants. And after a series of truly gripping matches, we have a champion to celebrate: Team Ice emerged victorious!
After all that thinking it was time to release some energy. We headed to the sports field for a fantastic afternoon of fun, food, and friendly competition. Students mingled amongst each other as they ate and watched the intense matches happening on various parts of the sports field. The volleyball in particular was a big hit, with many eager to get themselves onto the pitch. From spirited football matches to lively basketball matchses, the sports field buzzed with energy from the competitions happening all round.
Tonight’s evening lecture welcomed the brilliant and insightful journalist, Donna Ferguson, for an absolutely enthralling lecture. With her captivating storytelling and profound insights, Donna offered a fascinating glimpse into the world of journalism and sharing her experiences. Her words sparked engaging discussions and left everyone buzzing with new perspectives and ideas. A particularly engaging part for the students was the debate over a recent article of her’s uncovering the thousands of arrests orchestrated by Cambridge University, specifically targeting suspicious women, perpetrated since the 16th century. It was an incredibly enriching end to a phenomenal day!
Students headed off to bed to be well rested for one of the programme’s highlights for staff and student’s alike: a debate in the famous Cambridge Union debating chamber!
