August Program Day One: Arrival Day

  • July 27, 2014
  • By Author: Jenny
It’s the beginning of our August summer program, and the start of our daily blogs from the summer school! Check in each day to find out how classes are going, what activities the students have been up to, and where the excursions have taken us Today was arrival day for the students who will be joining us for the Global Leaders Program – an intensive one-week course that will explore what skills and attributes young people need in the 21st Century in order to be successful. The majority of these students will be staying for the full three week August program, when they will be joined by school groups from around the world for subject-specific courses for two weeks. Icebreakers Global Leaders Program 2014 The arriving students were shown to their rooms in Downing College, a beautiful college in the centre of Cambridge founded in 1800. They were soon playing games and chatting together in the Butterfield building, before taking guided tours around the town centre. Everyone had dinner together, before a proper introduction to the course – a welcome talk, and students meeting their ‘corridor supervisor’. Whilst all staff members want to make sure that the students are having fun and staying safe, the supervisors each stay on a corridor with students who they get to know really well. After these meetings, all the staff and supervisors played Icebreaker Games – a great chance to get to know each other (and say ‘Bunny Bunny’ multiple times…) It was the first of many busy days, and after a day of travelling and lots of introductions, many students wanted an early night. They will need plenty of sleep for our first excursion on Sunday to Hampton Court Palace, once the home of King Henry VIII. Written by Flossie Waite, Program Coordinator
