Day 18: Mock university interviews

  • July 18, 2014
  • By Author: Luke
Today was one of the hottest days of the year, not only in Cambridge but across the U.K! Tomorrow’s supposed to be even hotter! After the students finished classes today, some opted to play sports outside at Downing College, whereas others avoided the midday sun and practiced their performances for tomorrow’s talent show! I enjoyed a game of tennis and football with students this afternoon. A game of ultimate Frisbee was suggested at one point but the thought of high intensity running was too much for many of us! Some of the charity auction promises were also filled today! Supervisor Lewis took students out on a punting trip, Alice and Grace took students out on a Cream Tea picnic (very British) and Precious fulfilled her promise of braiding someone’s hair! It’s been amazing to see how involved everyone has been in fundraising for our chosen charity, Sabre. For dinner, supervisors took their students out on the last ‘corridor dinner’ of the camp. This is when students and their respective supervisors go out for a meal in the town. Some of the supervisors even put on a picnic for their corridor! I had the pleasure of taking my corridor of 7 boys and the upstairs corridor of girls to Wagamamas, a Japanese restaurant. By recommendation of staff member Flossie, many of us chose to have the Chicken Katsu Curry which was … amazing!! Today’s even lecture was given by a conflict analyst, who talked about his experiences of meditating, particularly during the war in Afghanistan. It was really interesting and students were very engaged. After the lecture, students took part in a street-dancing workshop! I suppose it’s never too late to discover hidden talents the day before a talent show! Written by Timothy, Supervisor
