Summer 2021 – Program 3 – Highlights

  • October 13, 2021
  • By Author: Luke

The third program of Reach Cambridge summer 2021 was a great success, with an abundance of inspiring classes and exciting activities. The group was a truly diverse international mix, including students from the USA, Russia, Mozmbique, Ukraine, Spain, Germany and Israel. With it being a smaller group than usual summer programs, the students really got to develop a strong bond with each other, and really opened up about their different backgrounds – the process of which expanded their horizons just as much as the engaging lessons!

In their classes, the students received expert teaching in their favourite subjects, developing a knowledge base and method of independent learning which would help better prepare them for university study. Some academic highlights for the students from Program 3 include: using Kerbal Space Program in Engineering class to design their own rockets fit for space flight; creating their own business idea and marketing strategy in Business Management & Economics; and contemplating the meaning of life among the beautiful scenery of Cambridge’s Botanic Gardens, in the Philosophy taster course.

The excursions for Program 3 were some of the best yet on a Reach course! Students travelled to Stratford-upon-Avon, a lovely, idyllic town on the river and the birthplace of William Shakespeare. After that, they journeyed to the nearby interactive, medieval Warwick Castle, where the students witnessed everything from jousting tournaments to birds of prey shows (and even got involved in some archery themselves!). The academic excursion was to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, which contained many interesting exhibits to give students ideas for their interdisciplinary projects.

Cambridge Sunset

For the Program 3 activities, there was no shortage of things to do! Many of our students were budding tennis pros, so we often held matches at the Fitzwilliam College courts. The World Fair in the second week was a particular highlight, as students gave presentations on the most interesting aspects of their home countries – there were even presentations on England, Wales, Scotland and Nigeria from the staff! The final evening saw the advent of Reach Cambridge’s famous Ghost Tour, and was topped off with some final photos of the beautiful city of Cambridge glowing in the sunset. As the sun sets on Reach Cambridge summer 2022, we are so happy we were able to share in these unforgettable memories with students from all over the world, and we wish them the best of luck in the future!
