The students’ week of classes started again after a delicious continental breakfast in the dining room. Many exciting topics were on the agenda this morning, ranging from cardiovascular assessments in Medicine & Life Sciences, to the philosophy of law and consumer culture in Politics & International Relations. Everyone then walked over to Cambridge Union, where two extremely thought-provoking debates were held by teams of students.
Cambridge Union is a well- known building in Cambridge in which many well- known individuals have debated, which is why it was such an amazing opportunity to follow in so many peoples’ footsteps. The students prepared and delivered debates about the pros and cons of the internet and the issue of global warming. The maturity and intellectual level of their arguments were astounding!
As it was such a beautiful sunny day in Cambridge, the new students had the opportunity to go punting along the River Cam and learn a little more about the history of Cambridge and its colleges. The last activity of the day was a neurology lecture delivered by Reach’s teacher of medicine. Students were given hands- on knowledge of how the human brain works as well as fascinating facts. Who’d have thought that a person is more likely to remember how they felt at the time of an event rather than the event itself?!
A very busy Monday was finished with some fun and sociable games which helped everyone unwind before the next day of exciting activities. We’ll be gaining new leadership and interview skills through workshops tomorrow before attending a formal dinner at Christ’s College, just like the university students would!
