Spring 2019: Day 7

  • April 13, 2019
  • By Author: Jenny
It was a day of mixed emotions and gorgeous blue skies. We were sad to say goodbye to our 3 week-1 students this morning but were so happy we got to share last week with them! After waving them goodbye, we headed off to spend the morning in the beautiful nearby Cathedral town of Ely. Just a 20 minute train ride away from Cambridge, we were able to see some more beautiful architecture and learn all about the way the town has developed. The main attraction of the town is its Cathedral, and we were lucky enough to have guided tours of the entire space. Dating back to the 11th century, Ely Cathedral is almost 1000 years old, and the students were inundated with fun facts, as we ascended through the various floors up towards the 120 feet high tower. From this vantage point – 170 steps climbed in total! – we could see far and wide into the beautiful countryside. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we ascended the path to the Cathedral in lovely spring sunshine!  Following their tour of the historic Cathedral, the students had some free time to explore the local town, with some opting to try the traditional fish and chips for lunch, or taking time to stroll around the local market.  The students then spent the rest of the afternoon chilling out back in Cambridge followed by dinner and a movie night. An early night is ahead to ensure everyone is full of beans for our week 2 arrivals tomorrow! We can’t wait!
