As our students are all well and truly settled in to life at Reach having spent yesterday bonding and getting to know each other, today was the perfect day to take them on their second official excursion. This morning, we headed off to the beautiful local town of Ely. Just a 10 minute train ride away from Cambridge, we were able to see some more beautiful architecture and learn all about the way the town has developed.

Students at Christ's

The main attraction of the town is its Cathedral, and we were lucky enough to have guided tours of the entire space. Dating back to the 11th century, Ely Cathedral is almost 1000 years old, and the students were inundated with fun facts, as we ascended through the various floors up towards the 120 feet high tower. From this vantage point, we could see far and wide into the beautiful countryside, even if the cloudy weather did hold us back from seeing all the way to Cambridge!

Following their tour of the historic Cathedral, the students had some free time to explore the local town, with some opting to take this opportunity to get a British classic for lunch - Fish and Chips! We arrived back at Reach Hall just in time for Precious’ Presentation Skills workshop.

Over the course of this week, all of our students will put together a presentation based on a topic that they are personally passionate about in order to put their newly learned skills to use. Many have chosen to present on their own countries and cultures, which is always a highlight of any Reach programme.

In the evening, we were fortunate enough to be able to attend another Formal Hall dinner at Christ’s college. One of the oldest colleges in Cambridge, Christ’s alumni include Charles Darwin, Sacha Baron Cohen and John Milton, with the college regularly ranking as one of the best academically in the whole university. As such, our students followed in the footsteps of excellent company as they were treated to a fantastic menu.

Returning to Reach Hall, an early night was on the cards for many of our students, but not before an informative Personal Statement workshop as a precursor to the exciting return of subject classes tomorrow morning!
