Spring Program: Day 7
How is it the end of Week 1 already?!
It was yet another jam-packed day for the Reach Spring students; and, for some of them, their last day on the Reach Spring program. The day’s classes were on the theme of ethical leadership. In the morning, the students considered the interplay between ethics and the humanities. Then in the afternoon they learned about ethics in the sciences. The lessons were full of interesting discussions. We hope they provided all of our students with some food for thought for their future academic careers!
After class, bathed in the glorious sunlight we have been enjoying, the students each received a certificate outlining their participation in Week 1 and the many things they have achieved during their short time with us. They also received a framed group photograph, as a souvenir of the memories they have made together this week.
This evening was time to celebrate their achievements and cherish the last few hours with those not staying for the second week. We enjoyed a tasty meal at Frankie and Benny’s. Fuelled by salads, burgers, brownies and sorbet, we then hit the bowling alley! Some of the students had been hiding some serious bowling talents – although there were also ‘gutterballs’ aplenty. It’s the taking part that counts! It was such a lovely supportive atmosphere, and so heartwarming to see the students all cheer each other on.
As for tomorrow, we’ll be sad to say goodbye to Selina, Simran, Vilija, Rebekah and Roha; but we look forward to welcoming a handful of new students for the Week 2 program. Some of the Reach staff are heading for a very early start, as they are off to meet the new arrivals at the airports. The remaining students will rise at a more civilised hour (7 am or thereabouts!), ready for a day trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon, to learn about Shakespeare, and Warwick Castle, to learn about life in medieval England. For all our students, whether they are coming or going, we hope the sun continues to shine!
