Summer 2025: Program 1 – Day 6

Sports day is always a highlight of the programme, and today was no different. After a long excursion day yesterday, and another trip to London tomorrow, the students appreciated a relaxed morning and early afternoon before heading to the Wilberforce Road Sports Ground for an exciting evening of exercise and friendly competition.

The beautiful weather that we’ve enjoyed throughout the programme continued, with the welcome addition of a gentle breeze making it perfect for an evening of sports. The sports centre had an array of different equipment, allowing for several different games, races and activities to happen simultaneously. Football was especially popular, with enthusiastic participants keeping the field busy all evening. Football seems to be rather important to our students at the moment!

The running races were exciting to watch, with a 100m, 200m and 400m for especially brave runners. The friendly rivalry between teams Fire and Ice continued throughout the events with opportunities to win points for the student’s respective teams.

The fire and ice competition was especially prominent in the volleyball tournament, with multiple teams battling it out, and as with football the game was fuelled by enthusiasm throughout the evening. As a proud member of team Ice, I regret to report that team Fire was very accomplished at volleyball.

Back inside, students had an opportunity to relax with an array of board games and activities. Some did crafts and made friendship bracelets, and all in all there was plenty of variety for the students to choose from. We then enjoyed a delicious dinner provided by the sports centre, before returning to activities.

Looking ahead to Sunday, we are off to London for our second excursion of the summer. The students have chosen between watching ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Globe Theatre and a walking tour of London and visit to Convent Gardens – but you can come back tomorrow to hear all about it! And don’t forget to check out our Instagram and TikTok for more daily updates! (@reachcambridge)
