Reach Cambridge students to work with the Sabre Trust

  • June 18, 2013
  • By Author: Jenny
Education is a huge part of Reach Cambridge summer school. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to take part in a range of fun activities, as well as excursions to lots of exciting places! But education is really important to us, and that’s one of the reasons why, over the last five years, we have been supporting the amazing work of the Sabre Trust. Each year Reach Cambridge students  work hard to raise money for the Sabre Trust, and raise awareness of the important work they do in communities in Ghana, West Africa. The Sabre Trust focus on kindergarten projects, which help children aged four to five who may not otherwise have access to education at this important age. Sabre build schools to create a positive learning environment for these children, as well as offering local teachers training to help students reach their full learning potential.

This year, the Community Outreach group, with the help of the other Reach Cambridge students, will aim to raise £6000 for the charity over the July and August summer programs. The funds will go towards the building of a new kindergarten in Dominase, Ghana.  It is a big target, and we can’t wait for the challenge! In the past, fundraising ideas have included a charity auction, a staff versus supervisors football match, and a range of sponsored personal challenges, from water carrying to a day without technology! There will also be a fantastic day of fundraising at the end of the July course, when we will be joined by African drumming group, One Drum, with all the proceeds going to an excellent cause. We hope you are looking forward to this exciting part of the summer program as much as we are – working together with the Sabre Trust, students at Reach Cambridge can make a real difference. You can read more about the work of the Sabre trust here. If you would like to donate to the Dominase project either now or during the summer program, you can do so by visiting the Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/dominase .
