! FINAL DEADLINE APPROACHING !
Students from anywhere in the world can apply for this exceptional opportunity. The Reach Cambridge International Youth Company will rehearse, study and perform two theatre pieces in Cambridge: One Shakespeare play and one collective creation.
So How Does It Work?
Just like all the other Reach Cambridge students, you will arrive in Cambridge on the 12th July. Then, during the times in which other students are in classes or on placements, The Youth Company will be working on their productions.
The course begins with an intense period of rehearsal so that performances can begin as soon as possible. When possible, rehearsals and performances will be open air in the grounds of the College, and there is also an indoor stage in the ‘Old Hall’ of the College.
Which Plays Will We Perform?
The Shakespeare play for 2008 has not yet been confirmed. In past years performances have included Macbeth and The Tempest. The themes in the Shakespeare play will then be taken further in the second part of the course. This will be a contemporary collective creation based on the strengths of the company and it will be movement, music and acting based.
How Does It Fit Into The Overall Programme?
The overall programme is jam-packed with drama-related activities and excursions. We have three theatre trips over the course of the programme: One in Stratford-upon-Avon, one in the Globe Theatre, London and one at the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival. In 2007, we saw ‘Henry IV Part I,’ ‘Anthony & Cleopatra’ and ‘The Tempest.’ The Cambridge Shakespeare Festival performs open-air and is active six days a week throughout the programme. You can read about it at www.cambridgeshakespeare.com. Typically, one of the Festival performances is at our residence – Girton College – which makes for an exciting and vibrant atmosphere. Last year the Girton production was ‘Taming of the Shrew.’ We have a good relationship with The Festival’s Company, who run educational workshops to accompany their performances. The three theatre trips are included in the price of the programme. There are also opportunities to go to additional productions at the Festival if you want more drama!
How Do I apply?
You apply in exactly the same way as all other students: by sending us your application form, deposit, personal statement and school transcript. We will contact you when we receive your application. Please direct enquiries to info@reachcambridge.com.
