Girton College Introduction

The British Experience hinges on developing a good understanding of British culture whilst gaining community service hours and experience of University academia. In an average week you will spend four days on Community Service placements and one day in a University Study class.

Pre-College Preparation at Cambridge University with Cambridge students. Bedrooms in University Halls with two meals a day in the prestigious College Dining Hall.
Lecture Series: ‘International Social Responsibility’ by world-class Cambridge University academics.
Workshop Series: ‘University Life’ with Cambridge students.
Activities: Sport in the College’s extensive grounds, creative/artistic classes, drama, social activities and free time to explore Cambridge.
Excursions to places of cultural interest around the UK: London, Stonehenge, Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Theatre: Three Theatre trips to the Globe Theatre in London, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford and the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival.
Local Excursions: There are numerous local Excursions to sites around Cambridge from Museums to the famous Orchard at Grantchester.


A Typical Weekday:

Morning
 
7:45-8:45
Breakfast in the prestigious College Dining Hall.
9:00-1:00
Morning Class/Workshop – Community Service placements or University Study Classes
Lunch
 
1:00-3:00
Lunchtime – Students have plenty of time to explore Cambridge, enjoy the spacious grounds, catch up on work or hang out with friends.
Afternoon
 
3:00-5:00
Afternoon Activities – A healthy body means a healthy mind: Sport in the extensive grounds of the College, drama or shopping in the city centre!
5:00-6:00
Study Period A chance for students to catch up on work, reading or just enjoy some quiet time.
Evening
 
6:00-7:00
Dinner in the College Dining Hall.
7:00-8:00
Lecture from a world-class academic on ‘International Social Responsibility.’
8:00-11:00
Evening Activities – Talent shows and coffee houses, movie nights and dance clubs or simply socialising in the Common Room.
11pm
(12 on wknds)
Check-in – Time to relax on your corridor after a long day.
